Book Description

The Story of Mahajanaka is a work authored by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, presenting his own retelling of one of the Jātaka tales concerning the life of Prince Mahajanaka. First published in 1996 with royal permission, the book reflects the King’s personal engagement with Buddhist philosophy, particularly the themes of perseverance, self-reliance and moral responsibility. This edition was issued as a finely produced presentation set, combining the dual-language text (Thai and English) with extensive colour illustrations by contemporary Thai artists, and accompanied by a specially struck silver Mahajanaka medallion, individually issued and ceremonially blessed. The result is both a literary work of royal authorship and a carefully conceived cultural object. The Story of Mahajanaka, by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
