Book Description

A beautifully presented book, custom bound by Dugald H.C. Lang of Glasgow School of Art in 1966, which creates a sammelband of works on the art of Paul Klee and Joan Miró. The binding incorporates different colour inlays of grained leather in keeping with the artwork inside. The book comprises 4 small volumes from 'The Little Library of Art' series produced by Methuen: No. 6: Klee; Magic Squares by Joseph-Émile Muller, 1962 printing;  No. 34: Klee; Figures and Masks by Joseph-Émile Muller, 1961 printing;  No. 31: Miró; 1924-1940 by Guy Weelen, 1960 printing; and;  No. 32: Miró; 1940-1955 by Guy Weelen, 1960 printing. Published by Methuen and Co. Ltd., London, 1960-1962. Mostly first editions thus - only the first Klee volume is a reprint. Printed in Paris. There is a pencil inscription at the rear stating the binding information (presumably written by the binder himself). A unique volume. A fine condition hardback in lovely condition. With inlaid full leather binding with raised bands to spine. Spine a little sunned, but front and rear covers have retained their colour beautifully, due to the very good slipcase included with the book which features a printed design on paper over boards - sunned to spine and with light shelf wear. With complimentary endpapers. Text bright and clean throughout. Text block with decorative speckled edges. Text in English. Unnumbered pages - copiously illustrated.. Dimensions: approx 164mm high x 113mm wide x 28mm deep (in slipcase). Weight: approximately 393g (unpacked).
