4to, 25 x 18 x 7cm thick. Impressively bound in original half polished maroon calf, spine with raised bands, gilt lettering and decoration. Binding solid, in very good condition. All edges gilt. Original dark green endpapers. Nice period handwritten calligraphic ownership “Edward Mills, The Oaks Gardens, Ledsham” No date [1874] Beautifully illustrated with complete set of 39 plates - 27 colour chromolithographic plates heightened by hand, of which 5 are double plates. There are 12 b&w plates, of which 4 are detailed double page. All in good order, with no loose plates or pages. An impressive example of this title.
