Dealer Notes
FIRST EDITION, bound from the original 41 parts, a popular penny publication of the period, but scarce complete and in early printings. As Michael Anglo points out, Ainsworth's Rookwood of 1834 stimulated a renewed interest in the highwayman, and there were several spin offs, including the 1836 penny publication 'Lives of the Most Notorious Highwaymen.' The illustrations are very characteristic of the earlier period of penny dreadful publication.
