Volume 1, part 2: marbled endpapers, printed title page, pps311 to 696 plus 16 plates Volume 2, part 1: marbled endpapers, Frontis (Saffron Walden church), title page vignette ( Castle Hedingham), 420pp plus 23 plates. Vol 2, part 2: marbled endpapers, printed title page, pps 421 to 836 plus 40 plates. Thus in total there are two vignette title pages, a folding map and 100 plates. This is 2 plates more than is usually found - the extra plates being a second illustration of Waltham Abbey (by Bartlett, to accompany the one usually found by G.B. Campion) and a plate of Bowers Hall, near Haverhill .The majority of the illustrations are from original drawings by W.Bartlett. Each volume has the leather bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown. (Some volumes show evidence of there having once been a larger bookplate - now removed). Some plates show some quite heavy foxing to the margins and there is some offsetting. Volume one part two has had the original spine relaid and has suffered a small loss of leather to the edge of the spine. This set is usually found as a two volume set and with a less elaborate binding. Probably unique as a four volume set. Some rubbing to corners and some foxing but an attractive set. Nb set weighs over 6kg pre-packing, please contact for postal quote.
