Book Description

8vo. First edition. Original off-white hardcovers, gilt. Jacket design reproduces Max Ernst’s painting, The Eye of Silence. Signed “J. G. Ballard” in blue ink on the flyleaf. The same ink appears to have been used to score through the second “crystalline river” which has been printed twice in the epigraph. The unclipped d/w is faded on the spine and rubbed along the edges. Near fine in very good + d/w.
Dealer Notes
It very much looks as if Ballard crossed through the misprinted duplication of “crystalline river” in the epigraph when he signed the book. Nominated for the Nebula Award in 1966 and an important SF novel. Scarce.
