This collection, first published by New Directions in 1939, contains a number of Henry Miller’s most important shorter prose works written the period of Miller’s and Lawrence Durrell’s life in Paris. Short stories (notably Max and The Tailor Shop) are mixed with philosophical essays, the prose poems and surrealist fantasies, the travel sketches and scenarios, all displaying Miller’s passion for telling the endless stories the life of the mind and the body; of people, places and things; of ideas and the imagination.
One of only 2000 copies. A first edition, first impression with the very scarce first state dust jacket showing $2.50 to the rear flap. The binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the endpapers and pages without marks or tears. Neat owner's name to the first free endpaper. Spine appears upside down.
The bright and clean unclipped dust wrapper, protected in a clear removable wrapper has minor general wear to the extremities with small losses to the top and base of the spine.
Near fine book in very good dust wrapper.
