Book Description

Mansfield Park (2 Vols), Jane Austen, J.M. Dent & Co, 1900, Second Editions Austen's third novel telling the story of Fanny Price. It is considered the author's first mature work and, with its quiet heroine and subtle examination of social position and moral integrity, one of her most profound. In original decorative cloth bindings with illustrations by C.E.Brock and H.M.Brock and edited by R. Brimley Johnson, the illustrations are protected by tissue paper. Part of a set of 10 volumes (Pride and Prejudice (2), Mansfield Park (2), Emma (2), Northanger Abbey and Persuasion). Volume I Preface and six illustrations. Webbing visible but not detached. Half title page and frontispiece loose. Small booksellers (Basil Blackwell) sticker to the inside of the front board. Cloth boards dulled over time and titling to the spine is less prominent. Crease marks to the corners of the front board and a darkened spine. The fore and bottom edges rare rough cut. The top edge retains its original gold tint. The silk ribbon is still fully attached. Volume II Six illustrations. Front binding is slightly loose. Small booksellers (Basil Blackwell) sticker to the inside of the front board. Cloth boards dulled over time and titling to the spine is less prominent. The fore and bottom edges are rough cut. The top edge retains its original gold tint. The silk ribbon is still fully attached. Becoming increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors for its beautiful illustrations and historical significance as one of the first colour-illustrated editions of Austen's works, makes this book a wonderful addition to someone's library as a personal purchase or a gift. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
