Book Description

Full leather over flexible boards, with a tab that folds over and tucks in order to keep the book securely closed. This copy has a bit of tattering on the fold-over part, and some edgewear to the board themselves. At the bottom inch of the spine, there is a half-moon gap where leather has peeled back (but is still attached). Gold lettering on the cover. Measures 4 x 6.25 inches. 8 pages of color plates at the front, with flags explanation for numerals, Nicolaveski Tide Signals, Sourabaya Tide Signals and more. Title page has only the date 1906. Copyright page dated 1905. 289 pages plus a section of about 30 blank, lined, pages for notes. Folding map of typhoon paths, another with barometric readings. Several plates with flags in color. Printed on thin paper. Pages clean and in good condition. Binding tight. on the front endpaper there is a rubber stamp that says AMI Deposit 1969. Beneath that, early owners name, which is hard to read. U.S.S. Baltimore, Shanghai, China, January 1906 is certain - but the individual's name is hard to make out. Ch-- Wells, Lieut US Navy. The USS Baltimore was in service from 1888 to 1922. Overall nice condition despite wear to leather cover. Note . There is no mention of any maps which appeared in later versions.
