Portrait of Chaucer and Stothard's engraving of the Canterbury pilgrimage as frontis in volume one. A very good clean set. Fine leather bindings by Bayntun (Riviere) of Bath. Mid twentieth century half tan calf. Spines with five raised bands, each with gilt wavy line decoration. Compartments ruled in gilt. Red and tan labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Top edges gilt. Tan cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. Armorial bookplate to the front pastedown of volume one. A coupld of minor scratched to the labels but overall a fine, decorative set.
