Book Description

First edition, sole impression. 4to., 336 pp., 28 full-page illustrations, some coloured, some tipped-in photographs; publisher’s green cloth, titles to upper board gilt, decoration and titles to upper board and spine in black. Elaborate, and attractive, 1923 ownership inscription to front free endpaper, extremities a little rubbed but an excellent example.
Dealer Notes
A marvellous book, often championed in some way as an unwitting piece of conceptual art and one can easily see why. However, we must surely not forget that on its own terms - i.e. as a pictorial record of different types of bread - it is a wonder. Used not to be uncommon but nice copies such as this one are becoming scarce.
