Sewn plain black limp card wrappers; lower wrapper affixed to stiff flexi boards lettered in black to spine and with an illustration in black to front. With rubber band as book clasp. A selection of photographs, with text in English. Various paper stock, tipped-in leaves with facsimiles, several old-outs.  *** A re-imagining of Zambia's aborted 1964 space program. A groundbreaking artist's book that was the focus of an article in the Guardian stating that by the end of 2012 the entire 1,000-copy edition had sold out, with copies changing hands for £750–£1,052. The Afronauts was reprinted twice (2016 and 2019). Our copy is the much sought-after self-published first edition. Listed in Parr & Badger: The Photobook vol. 3, p.302.
