First edition, first impression, in the first state dust wrapper. One of 5,500 printed, not all of which were bound upon printing, making this a less common example. Publisher's red cloth in the clipped first state wrapper with oak leaf border. Some losses to the head of the spine of the wrapper; else some bumping to the tail & to the extremities. Front panel remaining clean, rear panel a little age-toned and scuffed. Some small closed tears to the edgse of the rear panel. Else appearing unrestored and bright. Some bumping to the head and tail of the spine of the book; the boards are a little rubbed and tired. Fore edge spotted. Hinges a touch loose. Binding generally firm, with just the odd spot to the leaves. A very good example in the first state wrapper.
