Half brick-red morocco binding with light brown cloth boards, gilt ruling finish to boards, five raised bands, gilt boxed ruling to each panel, gilt ribbed finish to bands and gilt lettering to the spine. All edges gilt, cockerell endpaper, silk head and tail bands. A beautiful example of a Hatchards binding with their stamp to verso of ffep, most likely from the library of Roland Thomas Pemberton*, bound with no expense spared. In near fine condition, clean, fresh and bright with a touch of fading to the spine as seen in photos. With a couple of loose slips from 'The Permuit Company Limited'. *Please see our other listing: Pictures in The Possesion of St Catherine's College. Roland Thomas Pemberton (1901-1983), past President of St Catherine's College Society, Honorary Fellow Commoner of St Catherine's College, Cambridge. He was a director of the 'Permuit Company Limited', specialists in industrial water softening and purification.
