First and only edition. 12mo. pp. [i, title], 152; occasional minor spotting, else very good in original parchment wrappers, lettered in black to upper cover, rubbed, slight browning to margins.

Not in the relevant bibliographies. This work records McCagg’s visit to the Caucasus, reached by train to Daratof on the Volga, a steamship to Astrakhan and along the Caspian coast to Daghestan. McCagg travelled over the Dariel Pass (Krestowaja Gora) to Vladikavkas (Ordzhonikidze), and comments "The Caucasian range, as I saw it, did not at all remind me of the Alps. It is more stern and savage ... I thought it grand but forbidding, rather to be seen once than returned to often" (p.71). He continued his journey to Tiflis (Tblisi) and on to Batum on the Black Sea, from there taking a steamer to Constantinople. The work seems to have been privately printed, since the author's note at the front speaks of him recording the journey "through a region comparatively unknown to the tourist" as being not "without interest to my friends."
