Singapore Map and Excursions 1925
Book Description
Singapore Map and Excursions publicity leaflet published by American Express, Singapore circa 1925. The map measures 18 by 17 cm. and is on a scale of 2.66 inches to the mile. It covers an area from the Observatory and Tanjong Pagar by the waterfront wharves in the south up to Government House and Rochore Road in the north. It shows tram routes and the railway plus features including Happy Valley, the Stadium Football Ground, Johnston’s Pier, the General Post Office, Fort Canning, hotels including Raffles and the Adelphi, the Union Jack Club, the Criminal Prison and the Central Police Station. The rest of the leaflet- a folding document which opens to 35 by 18 cm.- contains information on both sides about excursions from Singapore and American Express travel services. Some small hand written calculations in ink to two of the folding sections and evidence that part of the back was once pasted in a scrapbook. Good condition overall: a fascinating piece of social and travel history.
