Bound by Riviere in contemporary tree calf, gilt, raised bands and morocco label to spines, very slight rubbing to edges of spines; all edges gilt marbled endpapers, gilt turn-ins. Titlepages printed in red and black with vignette. School prize inscription from Mayfield convent school awarded to Claudia Botzinger for “the Prize for the Head of the School awarded as a Perpetual Remembrace of Hilda Wilcocks, June 1928”. Edmund Joseph Sullivan (1869-1933) was a prolific book illustrator who blended the a high Victorian style with Art Deco not unlike Aubrey Beardsley. His many book embellishments include The Compleat Angler and The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
