First edition. From a school library, with three small stamps to front endpapers and half title, also bearing presentation inscription to front pastedown, the book appears unread. Some spotting, mainly to outer pages. Tissue protected frontispiece and 19 plates, 6 maps, one folding. Small split to publisher's cloth binding at base of spine, good to very good copy. Wilton was originally British but spent most of his life in Russia, fighting for their army in WWI and experiencing the revolution at firsthand. The first published account of the Russian Revolution and its history.
