Robinson Crusoe ... A new edition, revised and corrected for the advancement of nautical education. Illustrated by technichal and geographical annotation, and embellished with maps and engravings. By the Hydrographer of the Naval Chronicle.
Book Description
Probably edited by James Stanier Clarke, chaplain and librarian to the Prince Regent and co-founder of the Naval Chronicle. Remembered now for his correspondence with Jane Austen. Largely neglected, this is a significant edition of Crusoe with annotated annotations piled on top of the text. Original boards, folding map frontispiece, some loss to the spine, 4to, 579pp. Includes the Further Adventures and treats the whole magnum opus as a matter of historical fact. Details on history and commercial history of ports, provisioning, prevailing winds and currents and Crusoe's most likely route, pets on board ships and the transmission of disease. Clarke also published an annotated edition of Falconer's "The Shipwreck".
