Book Description

Adams C866 (order of binding varies: our copy corresponds to that at Queens’ Coll.); oddly missed by Schweiger.
Dealer Notes
First collected edition, with some material (at least the De amicitia) first printed here. ‘For this period [he lived c.480-c.573] full of interest for those who find a philosophic pleasure in contemplating not only ascendancy but decadence, there is no writer on whom it is better worth while to spend time than Cassiodorus’ (L.J.Morison). ‘He is one of the founders of western medieval civilization’ (A.Momigliano). There is no obvious reason for the odd mixture of foliation and pagination: shaky arithmetic by the typesetter?
