Dealer Notes
St Giles Church, Skelton, York is an interesting church, built around 1247, reputedly by the stonemasons who helped build York Minster, using stones which remained after the building of the South Transept of the Minster. Ewan Christian was appointed Architect to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1851, a post which he held until his death in 1895. His early interest in this church is shown by this elaborate book of illustrations, 1846, though he did not get around to restoring it until 1882. See Simon Jenkins, 'Englands 1000 Best Churches'.
