Book Description

Twenty mounted albumen photographs showing the Russian colony in Urga, [now Ulaanbaatar], Mongolia, 230 by 380mm, four that are 107 by 230mm. majority signed in the plate by the photographer, in Cyrillic, Voradyev, with later printed mounted captions in Cyrillic beneath a few photographs, (all captions stored all mounted on grey card (many captions detached, some light staining to mounts, not affecting photographs), the morocco album lettered in Cyrillic in gilt, watered silk liners, clasps, size of album: folio (530 x 380mm), the photographs of varying sizes, some mounted two to a page, [late 19th-century]. The photographs are numbered in the captions from 71 to 90, loosely-inserted accompanying booklet in Cyrillic, printed in 1891 and presumably issued with the album, describes each photograph in turn and similarly numbers them from 71 to 90. A modern photocopy of a translation of this booklet into English is included. ("[These photographs depict] the Russian colony in Urga about 1861, after the Treaty of Peking was concluded...").
