Hunting Trips of a Ranchman

Book Description
This is the first edition and Medora Edition, one of only 500 copies printed in June 1885. This finely printed large-format edition was Roosevelt’s first published book, written while he was ranching in the Dakota Badlands following the death of his wife and mother. The Medora Edition was named after the town of Medora, North Dakota, near Roosevelt’s Elkhorn Ranch.
Roosevelt writes with both grit and literary flair, blending vivid descriptions of big-game hunting with reflections on the life of the frontier cattleman. The book includes encounters with elk, antelope, deer, and grizzly bears, providing a unique first-hand perspective of the American West before it was fully tamed.
Lavishly illustrated by leading artists of the day, this limited edition was handsomely printed by the Knickerbocker Press and is now considered one of the cornerstones of American sporting and Western literature.
