First edition thus. 12mo., pp.[xxvi], 443, [lx]. Additional engraved title-page, woodcut device to title, woodcut initials, index. Clean and bright within. Contemporary vellum, title inked to spine in an old hand, edges red. A bit greyed, a few small marks, very good.

Burmann’s edition of Justin the Historian’s epitome of Trogus’ Liber Historiarum Philippicarum, or Philippic Histories, a lost history of the kings of Macedonia. In his preface, Justin explains his method in collecting the most important passages of that work, parts of which are also preserved in the texts of several other authors including Pliny the Elder.
