Book Description

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1955. First edition, first printing. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper, as it appears so common with this title, is tanned and brushed at the spine and with very minor wear at the top and tail edges. It has not been price clipped (16s net). The boards are with no wear to note, aside from some light tanning to the foot. The text blocks are bright and clean throughout, with not a trace of foxing. Edmund Hillary s signature is flat signed to the front flyleaf, in blue ink: 'E. P. Hillary'. Internal toning, however, has discoloured the E. P. section of this signature to black. Despite this, this is a very good (or better) copy of a real statement book. Edmund Hillary (1919-2008), here accounts for his High Adventure and his path to mounting the peak of Mount Everest. On May 29th, 1953, he and Nepalese sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first people to do this. Incidentally, the news of their summit arrived in Great Britain on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, on June 2nd, 1953, by pure coincidence.
