Book Description
FIRST CORBOULD ILLUSTRATED EDITION. 16mo. (5.7 x 3.7 inches). 323pp. Finely illustrated with frontis and three plates, dated 1798, drawn by R. Corbould and engraved by R. Woodman, and the addition of one extra plate from a later edition, dated 1803, drawn by W. H. Brown and engraved by W. Hawkins. Previous female owner name, Agnes McNaught, dated 10th April 1816, to the top of the title page. Beautiful contemporary leather binding of full dark brown mottled calf. Spine with ruled lines and decorated in gilt. Red title label, gilt. One page with small amount of loss to the bottom outer corner, but not affecting the text, and a couple of leaves with some minor spotting but overall a clean copy in an attractive early binding, with a little rubbing to the edges but overall in very good condition. --- Originally published in 1758, Henrietta is an interesting commentary about the lives, and how much control they were allowed over their own destinies, of women in 18th century society. It is a scarce title in any 18th century edition.
