‘First Impression on A Tour Upon The Continent in the Summer of 1818 - Through Parts of France, Italy, Switzerland, The Borders of Germany and a part of French Flanders’ ~ by Marianne Baillie. Pub by John Murray, London 1819. First edition, in full leather, restored in 1998 by Trevor Hickman, master book binder & restorer; the spine was renewed with new leather with 5 raised bands and new head & tail bands, and the original red label re-used, 8vo, 386pp + end papers. There is a Bookplate on the inside cover of “The Rt Hon. Lord Gray” and there is a hand written note at the top of the verso of the frontispiece which notes “To Lord and Lady Gray with the Author’s Kind Regards”. (There is quite a bit of info available on Lord Gray if one Googles his name). There are 4 engravings in the book + the engraved frontispiece. There is some foxing to the inside front and back end pages, but virtually no foxing is apparent throughout the rest of the book. This is a rare & unique copy of this book having the book plate of Lord Gray together with the inscription from the author to Lord & Lady Gray. Interested?
