Xv, [1], 390 pp. 59 sepia plates including frontispiece with tissue guard, of which 2 double-page; 4 maps of which 3 fold out; 3 diagrams in text. Publisher's navy cloth with gilt titles to spine and blind ruling to upper board in unclipped cream pictorial dust-jacket. Cover cloth a little worn to spine tips with bumped corners; jacket nicked & creased with minor loss head/tail of spine and soiling to rear panel. Very light foxing mainly to prelims and Index; faint corner creasing up to pp 24 otherwise a clean copy. Signed by the author to ffep : "Best Wishes Hugh Ruttledge 24. X.1934" and by former owner above. Classic account of an early British attempt on Everest by the Author (which came near to completion twenty years before Hillary and Tenzing) and was an important step in the conquest of the mountain. Scarce in the dust-jacket, and even more so signed.
