Dealer Notes
Yates's treatise is a condensation and reworking of Jomini's Traité des grandes opérations militaires for the English military market. It is but one of the interests of this Barrister and St. John's College, Cambridge, scholar, as evidenced in the lengthy (24 pp.) dedication to General Sir William F.P. Napier, which is more of a screed against "...civil and religious tyrants..." who oppress the people -- not Britain, of course -- and, above all, against slavery, especially as it is practiced in the Southern United States.
