1st Edition. 25.8 x 37.5. Oatmeal cloth backed paper covered boards. Top edge green, other edges uncut, xvi, 58pp with frontispiece by Harry Clarke and 36 full page plates. There are also 5 large colour folding maps, and one town plan. The book is signed on the front free endpaper by Patrick Abercrombie to his sister Helen. The boards are clean but there is a little staining to the spine of the and light rubbing to the edges. Internally clean and bright with just the author’s inscription to the front free endpaper. Sir Patrick Abercrombie first came to prominence as the first editor of Town Planning Review and co-winner (with Sydney and Arthur Kelly) of an international competition to redesign Dublin (1916). During his tenure at Liverpool, he co-founded the Council for the Preservation of Rural England (1926) and drafted schemes for the English towns and regions of Sheffield, Doncaster, Bristol, and Bath, among others. He is best known for his involvement in the post war planning of London. This is an excellent signed copy.
