Book Description

FIRST UK EDITION. 8vo. Green cloth, spine lettered in silver. Pushing to spine ends, bumps to top edges. Uneven toning and light spotting to endpapers, partial PO stamp to ffep. Else, clean and tidy. In Eric Fraser’s wonderful wraparound dust jacket: rubbed and creased, nicked and chipped, losses to spine ends, including lettering, but both front and rear panels show well.
Dealer Notes
Set in Antebellum Mississippi, Double Muscadine has been described as a historical whodunit, whose trial is modelled in “considerable part on an actual case in the records of the Supreme Court of Mississippi in the 1850’s” ([p.6]). It is the third and final novel in Gaither’s plantation trilogy (1940-9), through which she sought to represent the realities of slavery in the South.
