Number 493 of 525 copies, this one of the special copies bound in full morocco, inscribed presentation copy from the author/artist; folio; printed in black, red & blue, pictorial half-title, frontispiece, additional pictorial title, letterpress title with vignette device, black & white illustrations throughout, including full-page, gilt pictorial endpapers, bookseller’s small sticker to verso of front free endpaper; original full blue morocco, gilt rule edged, gilt silhouette design to upper cover, spine lettered in gilt, spine very slightly dulled, but really a fine example, gilt edges, marbled board slip-case.

An enigmatic copy of this splendid limited edition by one of the leading British illustrators of the 20th century. In theory the only copies to be bound thus in full morocco, as opposed to quarter morocco, were to be numbered one to twenty-six, but this is numbered 493, plus additionally initialled & inscribed in pencil by Flint on a preliminary blank, ‘For dear Ray With deep affections & gratitude from her Artist-Author WRF.’
