A Father of Women and Other Poems (Inscribed by the author to the preliminary title page with a presentation inscription to Albert Cock)

Book Description
A Father of Women and Other Poems. By Alice Meynell.
Alice Meynell (1847–1922) was an English poet, essayist, editor, and suffragist known for her elegant prose and contemplative poetry. Born in London as Alice Thompson, she converted to Catholicism in her youth and later married journalist Wilfrid Meynell. Together, they edited and published various literary works, fostering new talent.
Meynell’s poetry earned early praise from figures like John Ruskin, and her essays addressed literature, religion, and women’s issues. She was a vocal supporter of women's rights and served as vice president of the Women Writers' Suffrage League. Deeply engaged in literary and social reform circles, she was once considered for the role of Poet Laureate.
Published by Burns & Oates Ltd, London, 1917. First edition.
Inscribed by the author to the preliminary title page with a presentation inscription to Albert Cock (To Albert Cock from his affectionate friend A.M. 1917), who is mentioned in letters in her archive papers, and who we believe edited her 1928 Selected Poems and Prose (?). We have compared the handwriting to several exemplars from the period, and it is a clear match for Alice Meynell.
A very scarce hardback edition. Brown paper over boards with leather spine. Title label to front. Splitting to inner joint at first free endpaper. Text is on a good quality paper stock, with uncut edges. Text is clean except for 4 small blue lines written next to page numbers on contents page.
Also contains some correspondence - but we don't know if this is directly related to Alice Meynell or not.
