Book Description

A first edition, first impression of A.A. Milne’s famous children’s book Winnie-the-Pooh, which first introduced readers to beloved characters Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, and Eeyore. The ten stories within are accompanied by black and white line drawings by Ernest H. Shepard, the English book artist also known for his illustrations for Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows. Shepard’s iconic map of the Hundred Acre Wood is printed on the front and rear endpapers, with locations like “Pooh Bears House,” “Piglets House,” and “Eeyores Gloomy Place, Rather Boggy and Sad.” Spotting and discoloration to boards. Wear to board extremities, especially to corners and spine tips. Previous owner’s inscription in pencil dated 1926 to front flyleaf, with marks in pencil to endpapers. Binding cracked between p.32-33, resulting in cocking to spine. Gilt to boards and top edge remain bright.
