Book Description

A near fine copy, in a d/w that is worn and with section to spine missing (see image). First edition, first impression, first published June 1934. Original blue cloth, silver lettered spine and front cover, top edges blue, the dust wrapper that is not price clipped (10/6d). Small neat previous owner's signature to fep. A nice copy of what is widely regarded as one of the most realistic and moving accounts of aerial combat in World War I. This is an incredibly elusive volume in this first edition, and with a wrapper! Yeates gives a first-hand description of a pilot’s life at this time, as a lieutenant flying Sopwith Camel single-seater fighters with No. 46 Squadron from Le Hameau airfield just behind Arras.
