Scarce. Neagoe was born in Romania, and some of his work concerns peasant life in the region, but the greater part of his life was spent in America and Paris; in the latter spell, entre les deux guerres, he was for a time associated with Eugene Jolas and the ‘transition’ group, and subsequently an author of the Obelisk Press. He was friends with a number of artists and other writers, and this engaging essay has the feel of a personal report rather than a scholarly study.
