Book Description

A remarkably well preserved copy of the first impression which is signed on the front fly leaf by the author in ink pen with a dedication to his mother and reads: " To dearest Mother with love from John." It is further later inscribed in pencil by his brother simply: "AWF Fuller from Mother" There are also notes in pencil underneath by AWF Fuller, who made notes in many of the books in the family collection, which read: "Dedicated to the memory of Father who was born on the 9 Septr. 1832 in West Street, Chicester + died on the 28 June 1927 at 7 Sydenham Hill, London." These notes match the printed dedication opposite the copyright page. There are a number of 1930s newspaper clipping laid in which relate to Major- Gen Fuller and reviews of the book. The black cloth boards look fresh and the gilt title lettering on the spine is nice and crisp. The books looks hardly read and the pages are clean throughout, albeit there is light toning to the end papers and the beginnings of very mild foxing to the page block edge. The dust jacket is still pretty bright although, since it is mainly light coloured, there are a few dirty marks which show up the more so, as does the toning to the spine in particular and the very mild foxing. There is a little light edge wear noticeable on close inspection. JFC (Boney) Fuller is included in Mark Urban's book, "Generals Ten British Commanders Who Shaped the World" Some accolade indeed. A wonderful and unique copy.
