Book Description
Published in 1889, this is a nice early leather-bound set of the works of the Bronte Sisters, bound in old half leather bindings with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers, top edges gilded. Books are a smaller format measuring 6.25 inches tall approx. internally illustrated with frontispieces, all bear the bookplate of their original owner, Arturi Ricardi Whitham ( Arthur Richard Whitham 1863-1930 ) who was a clergyman and author of religious works, born in the Yorkshire village of Rawdon, which is not far from Haworth where the Bronte Sisters lived. The bindings have some general rubbing wear, a few scuffs and small scrapes, mild sunning to spine edges, else are in solid condition. internally heavy noticeable foxing to endpapers, lesser foxing to opening and closing few pages, and occasional foxing to a few pages within, a few creased page corners, else in good general condition.
