Book Description

London: W. H. Allen, 1959. First edition, first printing. This is a very good (or better) copy. The Mona Moore dust wrapper has mild shelf wear throughout, and a note of spotting. It has not been price clipped (12s. 6d. net). The boards are free from notable chips and marks, with some light bumping to the top and tail edges. The back strip is so very slightly toned, as is the bottom edge. The text blocks are free from foxing, if a little toned, and the internals are free from previous owners ink. Overall, this is a very good (or better) copy. A collection of short stories, which contains the story which gives the book its name. This landmark in kitchen sink realism was brought to the screen, starring Tom Courtenay as Smith, and directed by the brilliant Tony Richardson.
