Book Description

2 Vols. set : Vol. 1) The Deluxe limited edition published by Batsford in 1942. One of only 100 copies printed on handmade paper and Signed by both the Author and Rex Whistler to the limitation page. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition with the publisher’s original quarter dark green morocco, spine lettered in gilt, mid-green cloth sides, top edge green. The spine has only a hint of rubbing and is not toned or faded. Light rubbing to the lower cover edges. Internally clean. 22 illustrations by Rex Whistler, 2 colour-printed and a number full-page. The book is protected in a loose glassine archival cover. An extremely handsome copy of a title which, when it does appear on the market often appears with a very rubbed and faded spine. Whistler was to sadly die in service 2yrs later, so I am presuming, this was one of the very last book commissions he undertook. Vol. 2) The First UK Trade edition published by Batsford. The BOOK is in near Fine condition in a Very Good++ or better complete WRAPPER (the latter designed by Whistler) with a little loss at the spine tips and slight toning to the spine. Collectible
