Volume one: lxii, [ii], 442pp plus colour frontis with facing explanatory note, two black and white portraits (of the original authors) and 47 tissue guarded, captioned, colour plates. Volume two: viii, 458pp plus 50 tissue guarded, captioned, colour plates. Volume three: xvi, 355pp 1pp book adverts plus 24 tissue guarded, captioned, colour plates and two coloured folding maps showing locations of Indian tribes and reservations in 1833 and 1906 respectively. The introduction to this volume is by H. J. Braunholtz. The total number of colour plates is 122, this collates with the list of plates supplied in each volume. However the title page of each volume state 123 colour plates - Perhaps they count the explanation of the frontis in volume one as a plate?
