The Battle of Waterloo, with Those of Ligny and Quatre Bras, described by Eye-witnesses and by the Series of Official Accounts published by Authority. To which are added, Memoirs of F. M. the Duke of Wellington, F. M. Prince Blucher, the Emperor Napoleon.
Book Description
A richly illustrated nineteenth century account of the Waterloo campaign, bringing together eyewitness testimony, official reports, and biographical sketches of the principal commanders. George Jones, an artist and Royal Academician with a strong interest in military history, sought to present a vivid reconstruction of the decisive battles of Waterloo, Ligny and Quatre Bras. The work is enhanced by maps, plans of the battlefield, and a series of finely executed etched plates after contemporary drawings, offering both narrative history and visual record of one of the most famous campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars. This enlarged 1852 edition reflects the enduring Victorian fascination with Waterloo and remains one of the more handsome illustrated accounts of the battle published in the nineteenth century.

A rather splendid copy of this fine work on the Battle of Waterloo. Finely bound with later maroon grained Morocco leather spine and corners, with raised bands, tooled gilt decorated spine and red cloth over boards (although possible it is another fine grain leather), with gilt ruled decoration. All soundly bound.
Text is bright and clean throughout. Red top edge, and with page marker ribbon. Main front map with tape strengthened repair on its rear panel, not detracting from the lovely condition overall. Very smart indeed and good to find with all maps and plates present.
Text in English.
