Contemporary calf, banded spine, gilt decorated compartments (slightly rubbed), boards alike with gilt roll outer border of gilt stars and flourishes. Account of the punishment of the would-be assassin of Louis XIV, Robert-François Damiens. He was the last man to be executed in France in the tradition style for those convicted of regicide. A very good copy (small blank outer marginal tear to one leaf). Exlibris bookplate of Cholmondley library.
