8vo, [4],192 p., title device of repeated printers ornaments with central solar design. Contemporary calf, banded spine, gilt decorated compartments (slightly rubbed), boards alike with gilt roll outer border of gilt stars and flourishes. Account of the punishment of the would-be assassin of Louis XIV, Robert-François Damiens. He was the last man to be executed in France in the tradition style for those convicted of regicide. A very good copy (small blank outer marginal tear to one leaf). Exlibris bookplate of Cholmondley library.
