First British edition, second state, with the publisher's catalogue to the rear dated April 1885. Bound in publisher's red pictorial cloth with gilt lettering. 174 Illustrations by E. W. Kimble including frontispiece with tissue guard.
Some discolouration to boards with a small dent to top edge of upper board. Spine tanned with some chipping to rear joint. Spine ends and corners bumped and chipped Edges of text block toned and foxed with red stain to bottom edge. Some light internal foxing. Otherwise a lovely copy.
