1st edition, a fine copy, apart from a small tear to tissue guard of frontispiece, Head edge gilt, others un-trimmed. Bowes and Bowes was established in Cambridge by Robert Bowes, a nephew of Daniel Macmillan — the founder, with his brother Alexander, in 1843, of a firm which by 1850 was a thriving bookshop with the official name ‘Macmillan & Co.'
