Book Description
ESTC T57324. Garside 1799/31. FIRST EDITION. The elder D'Israeli is now chiefly remembered for his agreeable literary histories and chronicles of the writing life, but in his younger day he made several forays into the fashionable genres of the Oriental and classical tale. The present volume consists of three of them; Mejnoun and Leila, the Arabian Petrarch and Laura (first published separately in 1797), Love and Humility, a Roman Romance, and, The Lovers, or the Birth of the Pleasing Arts, these two latter appearing for the first time. The volume is prefaced by 'A Poetical Essay on Romance and Romancers'.
