Book Description

This attractive highly collectable vintage map shows the route between London (in the lower right to Newcastle on Tyne in the upper left). "A.E. Taylor '30" printed at lower left corner. Taylor designed many decorative maps for Pratts Oil (which became Esso), clearly nodding to an inspiration of historic road, itinerary strip and route maps such as those by John Ogilby and earlier. It is a bright and colourful depiction of the route that features a decorative cartouche and compass, literary quotes and pictographs of places of interest. Copies are held by the National Trust (UK) and Norman B. Leventhal Map Center (USA) and many other significant collections because of it wide appeal and joyful decorative form. Colour pictorial / pictographic map with decorative border, 83cm x 32cm, folding as issued. A few soft creases at folds; very good, clean condition with slight nick to edge as if it has once been pinned to a board.
