Chapman & Hall, London, 1861, first edition; small 8vo, 115 x 180mm; pp 192, four folding plates, numerous illustrations with the text, several full page tables of technical matters such as for mean astronomical refraction or for converting degrees into time, and more; dark blue pebbled and blind embossed cloth titled gilt on the spine and front cover, the front cover carrying also the gilt embossed name of, presumably, the original owner “G. Godson”; minor crack of the binding between pages 96/97 but otherwise firm and clean throughout and a desirable copy of this scarce and technically important military work.
