1st edition, a splendid copy of this title, Orlando spends some time in Aldeburgh in Suffolk. Hale (1898 -2000) spent many of her childhood holidays at the seaside and in adult life much time in Suffolk  The fictional town of 'Owlbarrow' was Aldeburgh, much of which is the same today as it was in 1952.  Orlando and his family's home on the grounded ship was inspired by an 1872 built trawler named Ionia, which had grounded and used as a houseboat at nearby Slaughden.
