Book Description

Published by Goupil & Co, London, Paris, New York, Edinburgh, 1899, limited edition of 1475 copies, this no 1161. Half leather binding with cloth boards. Five raised bands to spine, gilt lettering on red leather patch to compartment two, gilt decorations to the others. Aeg. 12.75ins x 10ins, marbled endpapers, [iv], v, (i), 216pp, 1pp (colophon) plus colour frontis and 44 tissue guarded illustrations within the text. Tissue guards are titled in red ink. The plates were engraved by Jean Boussod, Manzi, Joyant & Co at Asnieres-sur-Seine, near Paris. The title page is printed in red and black. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Occasional light foxing to the text pages. Contents VG. Small abrasion marks to leather of top corner of front board, but overall a VG tight copy. Nb very heavy book, extra postage may be requested.
